繼3年前的血淚封王，紅襪隊再寫一章傳奇；在美聯冠軍戰3連勝逆轉，擊敗印地安人隊，後天與洛磯隊爭世界大賽金杯。
昨天紅襪通過一次又一次心驚膽跳的考驗。5局，拉米瑞茲強大臂力長傳刺殺洛夫頓；7局游擊手路戈守備失誤，印地安人洛夫頓後來卻在三壘教練的指示下，沒衝本壘，最後，布雷克擊出雙殺打。
印地安人的堡壘出現裂痕。7局下三壘手布雷克第一時間沒把艾爾斯布瑞的球抓進手套，堡壘縫細逐漸擴大。
紅襪新人派卓亞7局敲兩分砲，8局再敲帶3打點的二壘安打，徹底擊潰對方。隊友提姆林形容，「像在對方的棺材，釘上一根釘。」 被轟的投手貝坦科特，例行賽對右打防禦率0.170，美聯冠軍戰前6場投6.1局、只被敲1支安打；派卓亞一轟，把比數拉開為5：2。
反觀布雷克在致命雙殺打的後半局，守備出現失誤，派卓亞認為7局上的雙殺「是全場最關鍵。」 印地安人在第4戰後已取得「聽牌」，背水一戰的紅襪以得分30、失分5的優勢，第12度贏得美聯冠軍，隊史第3度從1：3逆轉，是大聯盟最會逆轉的球隊。
印地安人總教練魏吉說：「我們連贏3場，接著紅襪連贏3場，不能解決掉對手，當然很失望。」 紅襪先發投手松坂大輔投5局、被敲6安，只失兩分。連續收拾對方8名打者後，才被打第1支安打。紅襪主席華納說：「他在整年最重要的一役，滿足球團的需求。」且「他肩上背負兩個國家的壓力。」 印地安人先發投手威斯布魯克運氣不錯，前4局被敲9安，只丟3分，因保有季後賽滾地雙殺次數紀錄的紅襪，又出現3次雙殺打。
8局紅襪打完一輪9人次，5支安打攻下6分，包括尤基里斯的兩分砲。最後半局才上場守中外野的克里斯普，「撞牆美技」接殺布雷克的深遠擊球，讓紅襪開香檳慶賀勝利。
