FILM star Ewan McGregor made a flying visit to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford after developing an interest in aviation while shooting his latest movie.
The Flying Legends air show, at Duxford on Saturday (July 11) and Sunday, will feature Lockheed Electra Hazy Lily, one of the stars of the forthcoming film, Amelia.
In the film, Ewan plays the lover of legendary female aviator Amelia Earhart.
At Duxford last week, the Hollywood star enjoyed flights in a Fairchild Cornell PT19 and a P-51 Mustang and chatted to members of staff from The Fighter Collection, who are behind the Flying Legends air show.
He said: “Filming Amelia stoked my interest in historic planes and early flight. Last week, I flew in some of the most incredible machines from the Second World War which was a rare privilege.
“I am sorry that I will miss seeing more of Flying Legends at Duxford next weekend – I certainly look forward to going back again and again.”
Amelia, directed by Mira Nair and due for release this autumn, also stars Hilary Swank as Earhart, Richard Gere as Earhart’s husband George Putnam and Christopher Eccleston as navigator Fred Noonan.
Hazy Lily is one of the few surviving Lockheed Electras and is identical to the aircraft Amelia Earhart flew on her ill-fated voyage of July 2, 1937, when she disappeared over the Pacific Ocean.
