　　who would just stand there and stare.

　　She'd stare at the ground,

　　She'd stare at you for hours,

　　and you'd never know why.

　　But after winning the local staring contest,

　　One day in the park

　　I had quite a surprise.
　　我大吃了一惊．
　　I met a girl
　　我遇到了一个
　　who had many eyes.
　　有许多眼睛的女孩．
　　
　　She was really quite pretty
　　她实在是很漂亮
　　(and also quite shocking!)
　　（也相当震撼！）
　　and I noticed she had a mouth,
　　我注意到她有一张嘴，
　　so we ended up talking.
　　于是我们谈了话．
　　
　　We talked about flowers,
　　我们谈论花朵，
　　and her poetry classes,
　　与她的诗歌课，
　　and the problems she'd have
　　以及如果她戴眼睛
　　if she ever wore glasses.
　　可能会有的麻烦．
　　
　　It's great to know a girl
　　认识一个有许多眼睛的女孩
　　who has so many eyes,
　　是一件很棒的事，
　　but you really get wet
　　但是如果她绝望痛哭起来
　　when she breaks down and cries.

　　７．Stain Boy
　　脏污男孩
　　
　　Of all the super heroes,
　　在所有超级英雄中，
　　the strangest one by far,
　　迄今为止最怪异的一个，
　　doesn't have a special power,
　　并不具有特殊的力量，
　　or drive a fancy car.
　　或是奇怪的汽车．
　　
　　next to Superman and batman, I guess he must seem tame.
　　比起超人和蝙蝠侠，我想他是软弱的．
　　But to me he is quite special,
　　但对我来说他十分特别，
　　and Stain Boy is his name.
　　他的名字是脏污男孩．
　　
　　He can't fly around tall buildings,
　　他不会绕着大楼飞行，
　　or outrun a speeding train,
　　也不能从高速的火车中逃脱，
　　the only talent he seems to have
　　is to leave a nasty stain.
　　他拥有的唯一的能力
　　就是摆脱他那另人讨厌的脏污．
　　
　　Sometimes I know it bothers him,
　　我知道有些事情另他烦恼，
　　that he can't run or swim or fly,
　　比如他不会奔跑，游泳和飞翔，
　　and because of this one ability,

　　his dry cleaning bill is sky-high.

　　８．The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy

　　 He proposed in the dunes,

　　they were wed by the sea,
　　在海边结婚。
　　Their nine-day-long honeymoon
　　was on the isle of Capri.
　　在卡布里岛，
　　享受九天的蜜月。
　　For their supper they had one specatular dish-
　　a simmering stew of mollusks and fish.
　　And while he savored the broth,
　　her bride's heart made a wish.
　　晚餐，他们享用了一道非常特别的菜——
　　贝类和鱼一起炖煮的热腾腾浓汤。
　　当他品尝汤汁的时候，
　　新娘在心中许下愿望。
　　心愿实现了——她生了一个宝宝，
　　但这个小家伙是人类吗？

　　Ten fingers, ten toes,he had plumbing and sight.He could hear, he could feel,but normal?Not quite.This unnatural birth, this canker, this blight,was the start and the end and the sum of their plight.

　　他听得见，他有感觉。
　　但是他正常吗？
　　也不是！

　　She railed at the doctor:"He cannot be mine.He smells of the ocean, of seaweed and brine."

　　"You should count yourself lucky, for only last week,I treated a girl with three ears and a beak.That your son is half oysteryou cannot blame me.... have you ever considered, by chance,a small home by the sea?"
　　“你应该觉得自己幸运！就在上个礼拜，
　　我还帮一个有三只耳朵、一张鸟嘴的女孩看病。
　　你的儿子是半个牡蛎，
　　你可不能怪我。
　　……你可曾想过，
　　搬到海边的小屋？”
　　Not knowing what to name him,they just called him Sam,or sometimes,"that thing that looks like a clam"Everyone wondered, but no one could tell,When would young Oyster Boy come out of his shell?
　　不知道该给他取什么名字，
　　他们随口叫他山姆，
　　偶尔，也称他
　　“那个看起来像蛤仔的东西”。
　　每个人都在想，
　　小牡蛎什么时候会从壳里爬出来？
　　但没有人知道答案。
　　When the Thompson quadruplets espied him one day,they called him a bivalve and ran quickly away.One spring afternoon,Sam was left in the rain.At the southwestern corner of Seaview and Main,he watched the rain water as it swirleddown the drain.
　　有一天，汤普森家的四胞胎看见他，
　　“双壳贝！”喊完后一溜烟的跑走了。
　　某一个春天的午后，
　　山姆在雨中离开家，
　　独自站里在海边西南侧一隅，
　　望着雨水卷起旋涡
　　流入脚下的水沟。
　　His mom on the freewayin the breakdown lanewas pouding the dashboard-she couldn't containthe ever-rising grief,frustration,and pain.
　　山姆的妈妈在
　　瘫痪的高速高速公路上，
　　猛敲着仪表板。
　　她再也无法承受，
　　这高涨的悲哀、
　　无边的沮丧
　　和痛苦。
　　Really, sweetheart," she said"I don't mean to make fun,but something smells fishyand I think it's our son.I don't like to say this, but it must be said,you're blaming our son for your problems in bed."

　　我的确闻到鱼腥味，
　　我想那是我们的儿子。

　　He tried salves, he tried ointmentsthat turned everything red.He tried potions and lotionsand tincture of lead.He ached and he itched and he twitched and he bled.
　　他尝试涂抹各种药膏、油膏，
　　只换来全身的红肿。
　　他试过多种口服剂、酒精，
　　甚至是含铅的毒酒，
　　他即痒又痛、全身抽搐，并且开始流血。
　　The doctor diagnosed,"I can't quite be sure,but the cause of the problem may also be the cure.They say oysters improve your sexual powers.Perhaps eating your sonwould help you do it for hours!"
　　医生提出诊断，
　　“我还不能确定，
　　但造成问题的起因，可能也是治疗的良方。
　　大家都说牡蛎可以增加性能力，
　　或者把你的儿子吃下去，
　　会帮助你持续好几个小时呢！”
　　He came on tiptoe,he came on the sly,sweat on his forehead,and on his lips-a lie."Son, are you happy? I don't mean to pry,but do you dream of Heaven?Have you ever wanted to die?
　　他踮着脚尖，
　　偷偷地走进房内，
　　前额冒出汗珠，嘴唇——
　　吐出骗人的谎言：
　　“儿子呀！你快乐吗？我不是有意刺探，
　　但你可曾梦见天堂？
　　你曾渴望死亡吗？”
　　Sam blinked his eye twice.but made no reply.Dad fingered his knife and loosened his tie.
　　山姆眨了两次眼睛，
　　口中却没有回答，
　　爸爸拿起刀子，解开领带。
　　As he picked up his son,Sam dripped on his coat.With the shell to his lips,Sam slipped down his throat.
　　他举起他的儿子
　　山姆滴答的落在他的外套上，
　　当他把壳放到嘴边，
　　山姆也就滑进他的喉咙。
　　They burried him quickly in the sand by the sea-sighed a prayer, wept a tear-and they were back home by three.A cross of greay driftwood marked Oyster Boy's grave.Words writ in the sandpromised Jesus would save.
　　他们立刻把山姆埋进海边的沙堆里。
　　——简单的一声祈祷，流完一行眼泪——
　　三点时回到家里。
　　灰色的浮木十字架上写着“牡蛎男孩之墓”。
　　沙上的墓志铭写着：
　　“神呀，请你救救他吧！”
　　But his memory was lost with one high-tide wave.
　　但是他的记忆随着一个大浪消失了。
　　回家后，夫妻俩安稳的躺在床上，
　　他亲了亲太太说：
　　“我们来试试吧！”
　　她喃喃的说：“这次我想要个女孩。

　　９．Stain Boy's special Christmas
　　脏污男孩的特别圣诞节
　　
　　For Christmas, Stain Boy got a new uniform.
　　圣诞节，脏污男孩得到了一件新衣服．
　　It was clean and well pressed,
　　它十分干净，压制得很好，
　　comfy and warm.
　　又舒服又暖和．
　　But in few short minutes,
　　但只是几分钟，
　　(no longer than ten)
　　（不到十分钟）
　　those wet, greasy stains
　　那些湿而油腻的脏污
　　started forming again.
　　又来了．
