MY ENGLISH WORK
9-year-old girl Kellyanne live in a remote and isolated town of Australia, with her parents and her brother Ashmold. Her father is an opal miner and her mother works for the town market. As to Kellyanne, she also has two best friends, Pobby and Dingan. She is so close with them that she does everything together with them. But to other people, Pobby and Dingan do not exist. Pobby and Dingan are two persons that only live in Kellyanne’s dream or what we call imagination. Kellyanne is totally addicted herself to this fantasy world and lives happily. But what Kellyanne brings are a lot of trouble. She needs three dishes when she is eating. What is more, she is totally oblivious of her surroundings when playing or talking with Pobby and Dingan. Luckily, as an enlightened family, in order to make every family member feel happy, especially on Christmas day, her parents pretend that Pobby and Dingan did really exist, leave places for them to sit and bring them candy and also dance with them.
One day, however, Kellyanne found Pobby and Dingan nowhere to be seen and she wanted everyone to look for them for her. How is that possible for people to looking someone that did’t even exist? But Ray, her father still brings his little daughter for searching. It is midnight when they come to the mine field so they are considered as thieves and are taken to court. The loss of the two invisible persons make the family members fall into great troubles. Everyone is clear that no one but Kellyanne can find them. But the losting of two close friends make Kellyanne feel very ill and unable to speak. At this moment, her brother comes out with a crazy idea – to put APB to find them. Obviously, although everyone in the town knows the missing of the two persons, Pobby and Dingan could not be found. In this way, Kellyanne has to say that Pobby and Dingan are killed by an accident and they need a decent funeral. At the same time, on the court, Ray is telling everyone that they are looking someone that only exist in Kellyanne’s world. At first, everyone on the court laughs. But gradually, some people were being touched by the fact. And they also worry the little girl Kellyanne who is still weak in bed. Finally, the court judgment turns out that Ray is innocent. When everyone is just about to leave, Ashmold stand up and encourage the others to attend Pobby and Dingan’s funeral. This is what Kellyanne wishes to see and the only way to make her feeling better. About the news that everyone can attend the funeral spread out the whole town through the radio. On the funeral day, almost everyone in the town has come including the father for hosting the funeral, the stuff of the supermarket and even those accuse Ray of stealing. On the speech, Ray highly confirm the existence of two little dear person and tells the attendants that Pobby and Dingan are his daughter Kellyanne’s best friends. They play together. They help each other. They are being so nice and tender to Kellyanne. Why they never leave footprints is because they move hand in hand with Kellyanne no matter when.
The film is based on a fairy tale entitled My Invisible Friends. It is about a dream, a girl’s dream. The dream she weave is so real that touching every person’s heart in the town. As we know, the town is a place far from downtown. A place that has large amount of dessert and there is not a person in view. I could not believe that resident of the town can preserve their innocent so well that they work together to fulfill a little girl’s dream. In fact, it is the girl who helps the residents to regain their innocent. At the same time, residents help protect the little girl’s dream so she has the courage and hope to carry on her life. If Kellyanne live in real life, her parents should be desperate that their daughter is always hunging out with some unreal persons. The people around will treat her as abnormal person. And finally, the little girl will be sent to the mental hospital and end up her miserable life. But in the film, although it is a little girl’s dream and the dream seems absurd, the people of the town cherish it like it is real and important. What is more, people in the town revive their passion for life instead of fallen with the dessert.
